Minister Khaltar Luvsan met with British Ambassador Philip Malone

Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia Mr. Khaltar Luvsan had an online conference call with H.E. Mr. Philip Malone, Her Majesty’s Ambassador of UK to Mongolia on 25th February 2021.  

It is their second meeting since Mr. Khaltar’s appointment as the minister and the first after his reappointment in the newly formed cabinet headed by PM Mr. L.Oyun-Erdene. They discussed issues relating to ongoing bilateral transport cooperation as well as matters of mutual interest.

Minister L.Khaltar voiced pleasure with the introduction and use of the Pandrol rail track fastenings and railway sleepers made with advanced British technologies to Mongolia and expressed an interest in using the fastenings in ongoing and future railway projects, while also stressing the importance of prompt and constant supply of fastenings in punctual implementation of railway construction projects. The Minister also asked Britain to support the production of a part of the fastening system in Mongolia as the fastening demand will increase following the launch of major railway projects in the country and there is a further opportunity to export them regionally and proposed jointly studying the feasibility of obtaining the financing necessary for the fastening supply from UK Export Finance.

Ambassador Philip Malone expressed delight that UK businesses have entered the Mongolian market and undertook to pay attention to the Minister’s proposals.

In welcoming the proposal to manufacture some of the fastenings in Mongolia, the UK Ambassador said it is up to their manufacturers business plans and study and further mentioned that British and Mongolian companies are carrying out testing into manufacturing certain rubber and plastic components of the fastening system.  He also said the UK export credit agency is ready to provide assistance in the purchase of fastenings and pledged support for prompt and uninterrupted supply.
