Minister Khaltar Luvsan meets Mr. Tapan Mishra, UN resident coordinator

Minister Khaltar Luvsan met Mr. Tapan Mishra, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations on Thursday, 6th August 2020.

At the outset, Minister Khaltar Luvsan updated Mr. Tapan Mishra on the current progress of major infrastructural projects including New Ulaanbaatar International Airport, New Railway Project and so on.

He further expressed his comments on new potential collaboration opportunities that exist at the location of the old international airport at Buyant Ukhaa to repurpose it for UN regional humanitarian and disaster relief aid distribution and storage center as well as for aviation training purposes once the airport moves to the new location at the Khushigt Valley. In addition, the minister underlined the importance of the public transport accessibility for people with disabilities and expressed his willingness to cooperate with UN on project to make Ulaanbaatar city friendly to these people.    

Mr. Tapan Mishra expressed his gratitude for his warm welcoming and noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and introduced about the organizational reforms being made in UN system. He congratulated the Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia and relevant agencies for their excellent handling of the covid-19 pandemic and successful execution of direct flights to far destinations such as the United States and Australia.

Mr. Tapan Mishra expressed that he would explore possibilities of using Buyant-Ukhaa Airport for UN humanitarian purposes. He also mentioned that development of infrastructure for people with disabilities is a very important and expressed to pay attention to this issue. He also stressed the need to share best practices from other countries in traffic management and sustainable development of the road and transport sector, such as the development of public transport systems and road safety.
