Road Construction Work Begins on connecting Khovd-Uliastai

2024/04/05

Mongolia's Vision 2050 development plan includes a Local Road Program, with the Ministry of Road and Transport Development set to build 5,045 km of roads and 3,056 meters of bridges in 2024. This involves ongoing and new projects in seven provinces, 40 soums, and two border ports with paved roads.

Construction has started on the 41-km road connecting Durgun soum, part of the Khovd-Uliastai paved road. The Millennium Road from Durgun soum in Khovd province to Uliastai in Zavkhan province will be completed as planned.

In 2024, the Asian Development Bank will finance the construction of 163 km of the Khovd-Ulaangom road and 100 km of the Uliastai-Altai road. These projects aim to provide safe and standard roads for citizens and herdsmen.

Minister of Road and Transport Development S. Byambatsogt's meeting with Shannon Cowlin, the Asian Development Bank's resident representative in Mongolia, on November 20, 2023, confirmed plans for the Ulaangom-Khovd and Uliastai-Altai roads in 2024.
