The Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia and Japan International Cooperation Organization (JICA) have been jointly implementing the Project for Capacity Development of Improvement of Road Pavement Design Suitable for Mongolia’s Climate Condition since 2019. The project ends in February this year, in this regard, the sides organized technical workshop on project report on Friday 20 January 2023.

During the workshop, Mr. Bolor-Erdene Baasanjav, Director-General of Policy and Planning Department of the Ministry, expressed his gratitude to all participants of the project, including engineers, technicians and project staff for their hard work within the scope of the technical cooperation.

In 2021, the project team developed test standards for determining asphalt concrete pavement and pavement surface wear and damage identification resulting from tires. In addition, they developed a draft recommendation for cement concrete pavement.

Secondly, a total of 30 types of equipment have been supplied to the Central Laboratory of Road and Transport Development Center SOE and several trainings were conducted for their employees. Also, the project team conducted material experiments for further implementation of model project and published an academic article on the outcome.

Thirdly, the model project was conducted on Nalaikh-Choir road in 2021 and on capital roads in capital city in 2022, respectively, in order to test and evaluate the pavement design and ingredients for cross-cracks and tire tread damage, which are common problems on roads in Mongolia.
