745 KM WESTERN ROAD CORRIDOR FULLY COMMISSIONED

The Government of Mongolia and the Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia plan to expand international, regional and local road network in the short and medium term. In this context, the construction of 745 km Western Road Corridor passing in Khovd and Bayan-Ulgii provinces was fully completed this year, a task included in the objectives of the New Recovery Policy of Mongolia to link up borders of Russia and China by completing the part of AH-4 route of the Asian Highway Network through the territory of Mongolia in order to enhance transport connectivity and speed up the integration with regional transport network.

This route stretches more than 4,500 km from Urumqi city of Xinjiang Uyghur province of China through the Bulgan port in Khovd aimag and Bayan-Ulgii provinces and runs further north to Tsagaannuur port of Mongolia to Novosibirsk city in Russia.

Mongolia has road transport agreements more than 20 countries and Mongolian road carrier companies are performing international and regional transport in accordance with these agreements. The completion the Western Road Corridor allows international and domestic carriers to use this route for transit transport purposes.
