Minister L.Khaltar and US Ambassador Michael Klecheski held an online meeting

The Minister Khaltar and Ambassador Klecheski met via videoconferencing on Friday 26th March 2021.

The sides exchanged information on the implementation and progress of cooperation issues discussed during their meeting in August last year.

Minister L.Khaltar briefed the Ambassador on the preparations and ongoing works towards on the issue of potentials of establishing direct air services between the two countries and the necessary steps to be completed including signing a bilateral air services agreement, completing relevant technical, flight safety and security audits required for opening flights, proposed by the Mongolian side.

He also updated on the progress of railway construction projects in Mongolia and reiterated interest in supplying US locomotives for the Tavan Tolgoi-Gashuunsukhait and Tavan Tolgoi-Zuunbayan railways and asked the Ambassador to jointly seek financing opportunities for the procurement of locomotives.

 

Ambassador Michael Klecheski congratulated L. Khaltar on his reappointment as the minister and expressed his support and cooperation on the matters raised by the minister. He noted the importance of close cooperation between relevant agencies and the government.

 

He further informed that US side is paying special attention to accelerate trade and economic ties between the two countries and expressed his readiness to provide necessary support to supply US locomotives to railway projects in Mongolia.

 

Minister L.Khaltar expressed his willingness to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation, especially on improvement of Mongolia’s ship registration activities, enhancing information sharing and exchange as well as human resources development for the Mongolian Maritime Administration.

 

Ambassador Klecheski congratulated the Mongolian sides efforts in fulfilling its international obligations during the ship registration process and inspection, noting that it has been very proactive in complying with UN resolutions, and expressed the US interest to offer trainings for maritime personnel of Mongolia.
